Natalia Grace Mans (née Barnett) was adopted by Cynthia Mans and Antwon Mans after she escaped alleged abuse from her former adoptive parents, Michael Barnett and Kristine Barnett. However, the Mans family may not have been the heroes that the Ukraine native needed.

Anna Newlin, who once lived with the Mans family, defends the Mans family on camera, but then suggests to producers of the show that Natalia was struck with a belt and kicked down a flight of stairs by the Manses. "There's some things that can land [Cynthia] and Antwon in jail for a long time," she says in a voiceover.

Michael and Kristine Barnett adopted a Ukrainian girl named Natalia Grace, whom they believed to be 6 years old. However, the couple soon began to suspect that she was an adult con artist who wanted to kill them.
