BU and Baylor are no strangers to a legal fight over the respective universities' logos. The collegiate combat over logo design started in 1987 when Baylor applied to register the interlocking logo with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, but BU opposed the application.

A lawsuit filed in Texas federal court accuses Boston University of taking its "interlocking BU design" that is strikingly similar to the long-standing logo used by Baylor. The filing claims the private university is infringing on Baylor's federal trademark.
