British Columbia health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry shared in a news conference that a teenager, who contracted the first presumptive case of bird flu in Canada, was in critical condition after developing 'acute respiratory distress.

A teen in Canada may be the first person to catch an H5 bird flu virus within the country. Health officials are now working to confirm the diagnosis.

"We are conducting a thorough investigation to fully understand the source of exposure here in B.C.," British Columbia Health Officer Bonnie Henry said in a statement.
