Gov. Ron DeSantis will take a little more time to mull a replacement for U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, who has been tapped to serve as President-elect Donald Trump’s secretary of state. DeSantis on Tuesday said he will appoint a senator to complete the remaining two years of Rubio’s term around the time of Trump’s Jan. 20 inauguration.

Gov. Ron DeSantis says we can expect an announcement around Inauguration Day. The DeSantis appointee will serve until an election is held in 2026.

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said Tuesday he has not yet decided on who he will appoint to replace Marco Rubio in the U.S. Senate,but he promised to have “somebody ready to go” shortly after President-elect Donald Trump takes office later this month.

DeSantis reappointed Joseph Jacquot and Charles Kesler, two of his picks in his conservative overhaul of the college, to the board Monday.
