The man suspected of shooting two Democratic state lawmakers and their spouses in Minnesota while impersonating a police officer appeared in court on Monday afternoon as he faces an array of state and federal charges.

He wounded Sen. John Hoffman and his wife but didn’t come into contact with the two other DFL legislators, investigators say.

Minnesota officials said they are searching for Vance Luther Boelter, who was last seen in the Twin Cities area.

Minnesota Lawmakers Shooting Suspect Vance Boelter’s wife, Jenny Boelter, was detained for questioning after a traffic stop in Onamia, Minn., on Saturday, June 14, 5 Eyewitness News reported.

Boelter built a scattered career ranging from food to retailing to private security to pastoring, public records and his online postings show.

After a 43-hour search, Boelter was arrested in rural Sibley County and charged with two counts of murder and two counts of attempted murder.

Minnesota state Rep. Melissa Hortman and her husband were killed, and state Sen. John Hoffman and his wife were wounded in politically motivated shootings early Saturday, Gov. Tim Walz said. Authorities have also identified a suspect who is still at large.
