A sprawling storm will spread heavy rain and locally severe thunderstorms from Texas to the Carolinas during the last days of January, a little over a week since a rare snow event impacted parts of this same area.

Over the next couple of days, a strong low pressure system will move from the Desert Southwest eastward toward Texas. It will interact with high levels of Gulf moisture, resulting in a chance of strong to potentially severe thunderstorms,
