The shoulder injury has been a problem for Detroit Tigers utility player Matt Vierling since the beginning of spring training, back in mid-February.

To create a spot for Vierling, shortstop Trey Sweeney was optioned to Triple-A Toledo. Vierling was out for three months earlier this year with a strained rotator cuff. Only four days after being activated, Vierling went back on the injured list on May 27 with a right shoulder strain.

Tigers shortstop Trey Sweeney is hitting .221 with four home runs and a .594 OPS across 70 games. He is worth minus-5 defensive runs saved.
