A small private plane has crashed in a San Diego neighborhood, sparking fires in at least 15 homes, authorities said.

The pilot of the private jet that crashed early Thursday morning in Tierrasanta, killing all six people on board and injuring eight people on the ground, did not declare an emergency or call in any type of mechanical issue with the plane before it clipped a power line and slammed into a residential street, federal authorities said Friday.

The San Luis Obispo County Regional Airport was scheduled to reopen at 5 p.m. Friday night after a plane crash and fire closed the runway for nearly 8 hours. The announcement came in a news release Friday afternoon.
