Microsoft has finally released a spell check and autocorrect feature in Notepad for all Windows 11 users, forty-one years after the program was introduced in 1983.

In 3.5 years, Notepad.exe has gone from “barely maintained” to “it writes for you” AI features in Windows are gradually becoming more widespread and inescapable.

Notepad now has the ability to write text from scratch using generative AI, which is meant to aid you by quickly producing drafts based on your prompts and instructions.

Microsoft keeps improving and adding more features to the Windows 11 Notepad application, the latest being a built-in character counter.

Microsoft is busy fleshing out a number of the higher-profile default apps in Windows 11, and Notepad is the latest application to get some attention with the addition of a very useful feature.
