DALLAS — An earthquake with a magnitude of 5.1 struck near Ackerly Monday evening, briefly rattling parts of the Dallas-Forth Worth metroplex. According to the U.S. Geological Survey, the earthquake hit the small community about one hour north of Midland, Texas, around 7:45 p.m.

A 5.1-magnitude earthquake was reported in West Texas on Monday evening, and it was felt 300 miles away in downtown San Antonio.

A 5.1 magnitude earthquake that shook parts of West Texas and apparently centered near Ackerly on Monday night was also felt in other parts of the state, including Dallas, Austin and San Antonio, according to federal authorities and social media users who went online to share their experiences.
