The crew of a cargo ship carrying thousands of vehicles, including 800 EVs, abandoned it off the coast of Alaska on Wednesday.

In the wake of the Felicity Ac e incident, car carrier fires involving EVs continue to be a concern and in a post on X, USCG Alaska yesterday reported that it was responding to a fire onboard the 600 car carrier Morning Midas, 300 miles southwest of Adak.

The U.S. Coast Guard said it would allow the fire to burn because the cars’ lithium-ion batteries could explode. The ship’s crew escaped on a lifeboat.
