After Scottie Scheffler's latest win at the Memorial Tournament, much of the talk coming into this week's RBC Canadian Open was how Rory McIlroy would respond in his first start since the PGA Championship.

After an opening-round 1-over 71, Friday wasn't much better for Rory McIlroy, who posted a quadruple bogey 8 on the par-4 fifth hole.

Things went wrong for Rory McIlroy at the RBC Canadian Open as he posted a ridiculous number to miss the cut and nearly finish dead last.

McIlroy, who led the Tour in earnings from the week after The Players Championship until Scottie Scheffler won last week’s Memorial, trails Scheffler by $580,357. He can regain the lead with a finish of solo third or better ($676,200).

Christobal Del Solar, a 31-year-old Chilean, birdied seven holes in an eight-hole span and shot a blistering 9-under 61 at TPC Toronto’s Osprey Cove (North Course) in Caledon, Ontario, to share the lead with Thorbjorn Olesen after the first round of the 2025 RBC Canadian Open.

At last, Rory McIlroy addressed his driver issue at the PGA Championship, and he had some very strong opinions that he felt compelled to share.
