An L.G.B.T.Q. officers’ group had been barred from New York City’s Pride March since 2021. This year, organizers said they could participate only if they left their weapons at home.

A sense of defiance and perseverance was on display Sunday in Manhattan at the NYC Pride March. The event’s official theme, "Rise Up: Pride in Protest," was chosen in response to what Heritage of Pride, the organization behind the parade and festival, "identified as increasing hostility and legislative attacks."

The 2025 theme is "Rise Up: Pride in Protest." The Stonewall Inn, now the site of the Stonewall National Monument on Christopher Street in Greenwich Village, is considered the birthplace of the gay rights movement.
