Thousands of protesters rallied in the Thai capital Bangkok on Saturday to demand the resignation of Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra, piling pressure on a government at risk of collapse over a border dispute with neighbouring Cambodia.

About 20,000 protesters joined the rally as of Saturday night, according to an estimate by the Bangkok police.

The political turmoil set off by a leaked phone conversation shows no sign of easing, in a country where demonstrations have helped oust governments before.
