The New England Patriots are interviewing a top Miami Dolphins assistant for the defensive coordinator role. Outside linebacker coach Ryan Crow, who worked for newly hired Patriots coach Mike Vrabel when he was the head coach with the Tennessee Titans, is viewed as a candidate to lead Vrabel’s defense according to ESPN.
Aukerman, 48, began his coaching career in 2000 and entered the NFL ranks as a defensive assistant with the Denver Broncos in 2010. He eventually transitioned to special teams while an assistant with the Jacksonville Jaguars and became the special teams coordinator for the San Diego Chargers in 2016.

Per Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, Miami is hiring Craig Aukerman for the role. Aukerman, 48, last coached in 2023 when he was the Titans’ special teams coordinator under Mike Vrabel. He has served as special teams coordinator for all of Vrabel’s six seasons as Tennessee’s head coach.

According to ESPN’s Mike Reiss, the Patriots have requested to interview Miami Dolphins outside linebacker coach Ryan Crow.
While the Patriots requested permission, the Dolphins can only block assistants from interviewing for lateral positions. As a defensive coordinator appointment would be a promotion for Crow, Miami has no choice but to grant the request.
