The Detroit Tigers have had a somewhat quiet offseason so far despite expectations being high for next year. In 2024, the Tigers were able to snap a lengthy playoff drought thanks to an amazing second half of the season.

Teoscar Hernandez, two years older than Santander, just signed a three-year deal with the Dodgers that is worth about $20 million annually in present-day value (factoring in deferrals). That makes it a pretty good bet that Santander will seek five years and about $100 million.

The Detroit Tigers have interest in Anthony Santander, possibly as the backup plan for Alex Bregman, but the Tigers aren't frontrunners for Santander.

Gleyber Torres' signing was already a bit of a welcome surprise. Even if it's just a one-year deal and Torres has given no indication he'll ever return to his old Yankees glory, he'll still provide a veteran righty bat with some pop that the Tigers need. Maybe it actually made the Tigers ... hungry for more?

After a long, drawn out process, it doesn't seem like the Detroit Tigers offseason target is going to get the massive contract he was looking for.
