Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Friday invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the G7 summit in Alberta later this month, an invitation Modi accepted despite strained ties between the countries.

India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he looked forward to meeting his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney during the Group of Seven summit, after the latter invited him to the gathering over a phone call on Friday.

Responding to the media query as to why Prime Minister Narendra Modi was invited to the G7 Summit despite tensions over the killing of Khalistani separatist Hardeep Singh Nijjar, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney said India is central to several supply chains.
