A Purdue University student from South Korea has been freed from federal detention, tearfully reuniting with her family and religious community in Manhattan following days of outcry from faith leaders in New York and abroad.

A Purdue University student held by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement in a Louisiana facility was released late Monday, according to media reports. Yeonsoo Go, a 20-year-old South Korean student and daughter of an Episcopal priest, was placed in federal detention at Richwood Correctional Center, The Washington Post reported.
