In a statement shared with Nexstar, a Cracker Barrel spokesperson suggested that its new egg deal is a direct response to Waffle House’s decision to begin charging a surcharge for every egg ordered.

The 24-hour diner chain Waffle House has implemented a 50-cent surcharge per egg at its locations across the U.S.

Several locations inside the city limits of Atlanta had not yet instituted the new surcharge. But other locations had, placing signs at the door and on menus to notify diners of the higher price.

Cracker Barrel won't charge extra for eggs in the midst of a national shortage due to bird flu, unlike its rival Waffle House.

Some restaurants are choosing to pass along that extra cost to customers, but Cracker Barrel isn't one of them. The Old Country Store took to Instagram to seemingly fire shots at Waffle House, who recently announced a nationwide egg surcharge.
