Disney’s Lilo & Stitch is already soaring at the box office, bringing the beloved animated original into the realm of live-action, and it’s likely you are going to see a literal ton of Stitch merchandise at your local theater this weekend.
The original version of "Lilo & Stitch" came out in 2002. It had an $80 million budget and grossed over $273 million worldwide. Despite being considered a Disney classic, the animated film only received a 78% approval rating from fans on Rotten Tomatoes. The critics, meanwhile, gave it an 86% approval rating.
Step aside, Moana, Elsa and Simba. In recent years, Stitch has quietly become one of Disney’s most popular — and most merchandised — characters.
Another big winner this weekend is Hannah Waddingham, who stars in both the live-action Disney remake and Tom Cruise's last outing as Ethan Hunt.
