Ireland has called in help from England and France to restore power to hundreds of thousands of people after the most disruptive storm for years.

The storm brought 100 mile-per-hour winds to the island and also battered Scotland and northern England. Britain’s weather office issued a red warning, its highest level of alert.

Ten schools in Northern Ireland will be closed on Monday due to structural damage caused by Storm Éowyn, the education minister has said. Paul Givan met with the Education Authority (EA) on Saturday and announced that some schools may need to move to remote learning on Monday.

Emergency crews are cleaning up after a storm bearing record-breaking winds left at least one person dead and more than a million without power across the island of Ireland and Scotland.

The FOX Forecast Center is closely monitoring what is expected to be the next significant storm system that could dump heavy snow across portions of the Southwest and Plains while producing severe weather in the South and along the Gulf Coast.

People across Scotland are trying to get back to normal after Storm Éowyn battered the country on Friday. Buildings and trees were damaged across the central belt and southern Scotland, where the worst effects of the storm were felt.
