While Rangers star pitcher Jacob deGrom won't pitch at the All-Star game, there is a catch with his situation.

This is finally the vintage Jacob deGrom pitching for the Texas Rangers, and not because the lanky right-hander recently turned 37 years old. After several injury-filled seasons in a row, both before and since going to Texas in free agency, deGrom is again an All-Star ace.

On Friday, deGrom decided to pass on being the Rangers’ lone representative, relieving manager Bruce Bochy, who said per Jeff Wilson, “He’s been carrying a pretty heavy workload coming off the surgery. We want to monitor his workload this year. So, yeah, there’s a big relief for us.”
