Portland police say they’re prepared to respond to several May Day protests planned for the city Thursday afternoon and evening. But they don’t know whether to expect hundreds or thousands or tens of thousands of people on the streets as temperatures reach a high of 82 degrees on what is a work day for most people.

The Portland Police Bureau is preparing for possible protests in the city on May 1, which is expected to attract thousands of people for May Day.

International Workers’ Day, will see demonstrations against Trump tariffs, Social Security and Medicare cuts, DOGE layoffs, and anti-DEI attacks nationwide. As the weather warms up, nationwide protests against the Trump Administration are getting larger.
