Tropical depression Chantal brought flooding to North Carolina and spurred water rescues before moving over Virginia overnight Monday. The risk of severe weather continues throughout the U.S., as parts of the Great Plains are expected to experience some nasty weather.

The storm, which made landfall on Sunday, caused significant flooding that closed roads and stranded drivers. It is heading northeast.

Tropical depression Chantal Storm Chantal moved over North Carolina late Sunday night, causing flash flooding in numerous counties and leading to dozens of water rescues in North Carolina. Chantal had maximum sustained winds of 30 mph.
