The enforcement of subway fare evasion turned bloody on Sunday in a neighborhood where many people can’t afford basic needs, much less the cost to ride the train every day.

Crowds of protesters mobbed a subway station in Manhattan Wednesday night in response to a police-involved shooting at a Brooklyn subway station on Sunday. Demonstrators jumped the turnstiles at the West 4th Street station and chanted obscenities at responding NYPD officers,
