As if every front office in baseball didn’t already anticipate the Phillies will look to add to the bullpen before the trade deadline, their best reliever is a quarter of the way through an 80-game suspension and will be barred from the postseason.

The Phillies have a glut of starting pitching and a dearth of relief. Mick Abel will fill Walker’s starting spot Thursday in Toronto. The Phillies have four capable starters, plus the injured Aaron Nola, plus Abel, plus Andrew Painter once July arrives. That leaves no room for Walker.
