Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney on Friday invited Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the G7 summit in Alberta later this month, an invitation Modi accepted despite strained ties between the countries.

India's Prime Minister Narendra Modi said he looked forward to meeting his Canadian counterpart Mark Carney during the Group of Seven summit, after the latter invited him to the gathering over a phone call on Friday.

Prime Minister Mark Carney is defending inviting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to the G7 summit in Canada, as the two countries try to mend ties after Canada accused India of involvement in a Sikh separatist leader’s murder and of meddling in Canadian elections.
