Sunderland are back in the Premier League after winning 2-1 in the Championship final against Sheffield United at Wembley in one of the most exciting comebacks in the recent history of the game as Tom Watson scored a last minute winning goal that propelled Sunderland to Premier League soccer 2025-26.

The Blades took the lead through Tyrese Campbell and had several chances to build on it as Chris Wilder's side were dominant. However, Sunderland struck twice late on as Eliezer Mayenda equalized with less than 15 minutes to go and then substitute Tom Watson curled home in stoppage time to send the Black Cats back to the Premier League as their fans were in dreamland.

Sunderland secured promotion to the Premier League on Saturday after defeating Sheffield United 2-1 with an extraordinary injury-time winner in the most valuable match in soccer, as the Championship playoff final is known.
