In 1959, biologists Dmitri Belyaev and Lyudmila Trut began genetic research to recreate the evolution of wolves into dogs in real time in order to witness the process of domestication. They did this by using silver foxes from fox farms in the USSR. This research famously showed a link between tameness and such physical changes as curled tails and spotted coats, known as “domestication syndrome.”-While our foxes in the US are ranched foxes and not Russian domestic foxes, they exhibit a lot of the
