AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Texas Democrats prepared for a final show of resistance against a Republican effort to redraw the state’s congressional maps mid-decade, signaling plans to speak late into Friday night on the Senate floor in an attempt to delay final passage.

California Democrats are now planning to do the same to offset Republican gains in the Lone Star State. CBS News' Cristian Benavides reports.

The lawsuit, filed on behalf of 13 Texas residents, states that the redrawn districts in the new map — which Gov. Greg Abbott says he’ll “swiftly” sign into law — are racially discriminatory and violate voter protection laws.
