Mount Etna is Europe’s most active volcano and the continent’s largest. It attracts hikers and backpackers to its slopes, while less adventurous tourists can take it in from a distance, most stunningly from the Ionian Sea.

The Philippines’ most active volcano, Mayon, is showing signs of escalating activity, prompting authorities to reinforce exclusion zones and warn of potentially dangerous eruptions, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) said Thursday.

The chief volcanologist Teresito Bacolcol said it is too early to tell if Mayon’s restiveness would lead to a major and violent eruption.

All that volcanic activity means natural hot springs are prevalent within and outside the park. Two favorites include Tabacón Hot Springs, which is bisected by a thermal river, and the terraced Titokú Hot Springs, surrounded by lush gardens.
