Commanders request permission to interview Cowboys assistant for OC job
Lunda Wells is one of the more popular assistant coaches with Cowboys players. He's also well liked by Commanders HC Dan Quinn, who has a job opening.
There was more news from Washington yesterday, with Commanders assistant QB coach David Blough reportedly getting an interview with his former team, the Detroit Lions, for their newly-vacated offensive coordinator job. Johnny Morton was fired after one season of not being able to live up to the legend of Ben Johnson.
The Commanders have interviewed their first potential replacement for Kliff Kingsbury. ESPN’s Todd Archer reported earlier today that the organization had requested permission to interview Cowboys tight ends coach Lunda Wells for their OC vacancy. ESPN’s Adam Schefter later reported that Wells completed an interview this evening for the job.
Wells has been the Cowboys’ tight ends coach for the last six seasons. He’s got aspirations to become an offensive coordinator and was a tight ends coach and assistant offensive line coach with the New York Giants for eight seasons before leaving for the Cowboys.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that the Commanders have requested an interview with Raiders defensive coordinator Patrick Graham. The Raiders fired head coach Pete Carroll this week, but have not parted ways with any of the team’s assistants at this point.
The Lions want to interview Commanders assistant QB coach David Blough for offensive coordinator. Blough is considered a top up-and-coming coach.
