In January 2026, Delta Air Lines reported higher fourth-quarter and full-year 2025 earnings, issued 2026 guidance calling for mid-teens earnings per share, and unveiled a long-term deal to buy up to sixty Boeing 787-10 jets from 2031 to boost fuel efficiency and long-haul capabilities.
Forecasters have said the upcoming winter storm is expected to bring heavy snow, sleet, and freezing rain.
Deliveries of the 787 are slated to begin in 2031. With the new Boeing commitments, Delta has 232 narrowbody and 54 widebody aircraft on order for delivery in coming years. Besides the 30 firm 787-10 deliveries, Delta has options for 30 more. The aircraft has 25% better fuel efficiency per seat than the aircraft they will replace, Delta said.
The Atlanta-based carrier on Tuesday announced plans to add the U.S. planemaker's 787 Dreamliner to its fleet for the first time. Specifically, Delta said it would buy 30 of Boeing's largest Dreamliner variant — the 787-10 — with purchase options for an additional 30 more.
