More than 70 Hardee’s locations will close across the country soon as part of an ongoing legal battle. According to USA Today, Hardee’s filed a lawsuit last month against franchisee ARC Burger over missed payments and failure to honor other contractual obligations.

As previously reported back in April, the American fast-food chain planned to close 10% of its “underperforming” locations during a larger overhaul of the chain that was struggling due to customers spending less.

The nation’s largest fast-food chain closed 100s of locations in 2024 and 1,000s since 2016. The fast-food restaurant sector faced a difficult year in 2024, as several chains closed hundreds of locations and, in some cases, filed for bankruptcy protection.
