Even if you’re playing a song that doesn’t have many chords, you can still create movement and voice leading with triad inversions. In this example, I’m taking a chord progression that only has 2 chords: F Major & G Major. To create movement, I’m using the root position, 1st inversion, and 2nd inversion of these triads. Here’s a fun way to start learning your triad arpeggios and their inversions. This example uses an E Major triad arpeggio using only the first 2 strings. Notice that there’s always only 1 note placed on the second string, and 2 notes placed on the first string.
